Business mission to Georgia

The Slovak Agency for Investment and Trade Development (SARIO), in collaboration with the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic, the Embassy of the SR in Tbilisi, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the SR and the Ministry of Economy of the SR organized the business mission to Georgia on May 29 – June 2, 2016 within the framework of the official visit of the President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska to Georgia.

The aim of the business mission was to strengthen economic cooperation of Slovak companies with Georgia, find new business opportunities for the participating companies and the establishment of closer cooperation with the Georgian partners. The event was attended by 17 Slovak companies in the field of production, mechanical engineering, transport and logistics, electronics, information and communication technologies, as well as the available subcontracting of selected commodities. During the business mission to Georgia there were two business forums organized for Slovak entrepreneurs.

The Georgian-Slovak business forum in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia was organized by SARIO in cooperation with the Georgian National Investment Agency (GNIA) on 30/05/2016 at the newly built Georgian National Innovation Agency, which includes the Technology Park, aiming to support scientific research and innovative ideas in Georgia. Event was opened by Giorgi Kvirikvashili, the Prime Minister of Georgia and the President of the SR  Andrej Kiska. Followed by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Slovak Agency for Investment and Trade Development (SARIO) and the Georgian National Investment Agency (GNIA), which aims to intensify and deepen cooperation in trade and investment opportunities in both countries. After presentations on the possible cooperation of the Georgian and Slovak, the room was provided for bilateral negotiations of companies. There were 51 meetings of Slovak companies with their potential Georgian partners.

The second business forum was held on June 1, 2016 in the second largest city of Georgia, and also the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Batumi. The event was organized by the Georgian side for the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and was held at the Hilton Hotel. Forum was opened by Archil Khabadze, the Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Giorgi Margvelashvili, the President of Georgia and Andrej Kiska, the President of the SR. The presentations on the possibilities of cooperation with Adjara Autonomous Republic with Slovakia at this event paved the way for bilateral talks of companies. During the forum in Batumi, 24 meetings of Slovak companies with Georgian partners took place and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Slovak company Farm Trade and Georgian Mardi House Holding regarding the cooperation in the construction of small hydropower plant cascade Khokhnistskali SHPP.
