Promotion of the Slovak investment and business environment in Norway and Sweden

Promotion of the Slovak investment and business environment in Norway and Sweden Representatives of the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) accomplished a business trip to Norway and Sweden aimed at presenting the advantages of Slovak business and investment environment. Scandinavian countries are leaders in the field of high-tech, design and services and this territory offers great innovation potential with many internationally active companies.

On Tuesday, November the 10th, the seminar Doing Business in Slovakia took place in Oslo Chamber of Commerce headquarters which was attended by more than 30 representatives of Norwegian companies. Welcome notes were delivered by Astri S. Platou, Head of International Business at Oslo Chamber of Commerce and H.E. František Kašický, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Consultants from Investment Projects Department of SARIO Petra Sasinková and Juraj Mihal presented the advantages of Slovak investment and business environment with the focus on innovation potential of Slovak companies.

Useful information on how the companies should set up their businesses in Slovakia from a legal perspective, cross-border M&A process, start-up environment, IPR issues and various aspects of Slovak legal environment were delivered by Andrej Leontiev, Partner at TaylorWessing law firm followed by Milan Gocník, Advocate from Soukeník – Štrpka law firm who introduced tax system in Slovakia.The point of view of Norwegian companies successfully established in Slovakia was provided by Tore Strand, Managing Director at Timm Marine AS and Knut Meel, VP of Norsk Hydro ASA. An example of how Norway grants may be implemented into business practice was presented by representatives of the Slovak company Biomasa.

Next investment seminar was organized in the premises of Business Sweden located in World Trade Center in Stockholm on Thursday 12th of November.The event was opened by Bianca Dochtorowitcz, Trade Commissioner of Business Sweden to the Czech Republic and Slovakia,
30 participants were welcomed also by H.E. Jaroslav Auxt, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Presentation Business Friendly Slovakia was jointly presented by Petra Sasinková and Juraj Mihal, followed by Bianca Dochtorowicz who provided an overview of business opportunities in Slovakia for participating Swedish companies. Michael Hjemgard, Head of Sales and Marketing Slovakia in Nefab presented what led the company to set their business in Slovakia. Professional point of view on legal and tax environment for businessmen operating in Slovakia was described by Andrej Leontiev from Taylor Wessing.

Individual inquiries discussed between speakers and participants were held after each seminar and during the broad networking sessions. Norway and Sweden are the most developed countries in the world with strong investment potential and Norwegian and Swedish companies are ranked as top employers among Slovak employees. However, Slovakia is still not very well known in the corporate community.

Therefore, SARIO endeavours to promote Slovak investment environment in this territory. The seminars provided a great opportunity for establishing new connections with potential investors in order to follow the example of Norwegian and Swedish companies successfully operating in Slovakia such as Timm Marine, Tomra, Kongsberg or IKEA, Cloetta or Nefab.
