Slovakia Builds Bridges in Chicago, Illinois

Slovakia Builds Bridges in Chicago, Illinois

As part of its growing U.S. engagement, the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) carried out a series of high-level meetings and events in Chicago aimed at strengthening economic ties between Slovakia and the Midwest.

Illinois and Slovakia both boast export-oriented economies, strong industrial foundations, and growing innovation ecosystems. The region’s openness and interest in international partnerships make it an ideal entry point for Slovak companies in North America, and a promising destination for U.S. investors looking toward Europe.

Vladimír Lackovič, SARIO’s Special Representative to the U.S. for Trade and Investment, and Kristína Krajčírová, Consultant for Investment Projects, met with key organizations including World Business Chicago, Intersect Illinois, and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. These meetings focused on shared economic priorities such as advanced manufacturing, AI, data centers, quantum computing, and automotive innovation. These are sectors where Slovakia and Illinois are naturally aligned. The meetings were made possible thanks to the support of Joe Seliga, a Partner at Mayer Brown LLP and a respected Slovak-American business and community leader in Chicago.

During the event, Vladimír Lackovič and Kristína Krajčírová delivered the presentation Business-Friendly Slovakia, highlighting Slovakia as a trusted and competitive location for investment. They emphasized the country’s role as a gateway to the European market, its robust energy and industrial infrastructure, and its highly qualified workforce, particularly in areas such as deep tech, advanced manufacturing, and R&D. Slovakia’s stability and safety for investors, along with its investment incentives, were also discussed as key advantages for U.S. companies looking to establish or expand operations in Europe.

The program also featured brief presentations from companies operating in both markets, including SuperCity AI, Touch4IT, Sensible Biotechnologies and Talent Square. Attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn how Slovak talent and innovation are being applied in the U.S. business landscape.

Building on Strong Foundations

Slovakia’s visit to Chicago confirmed strong mutual interest in expanding business and investment relationships. With aligned economic strengths and a shared focus on innovation and production, Slovakia and Illinois are well-positioned for deeper cooperation.

This visit marks the beginning of a sustained effort to grow these connections, with SARIO focused on translating momentum into concrete partnerships and opportunities.
