Slovakia at the Center of Attention of Chinese Investors

Special Representative in China Lukáš Merga, presented Slovakia at two major business and investment events held on May 20–21, 2026, in the cities of Qingdao and Suzhou in the People’s Republic of China. Both events focused on promoting international investment cooperation and supporting the expansion of Chinese companies into European markets. In both cases, Slovakia held the position of honorary guest and was the only European country given the opportunity to deliver a presentation within the main program.

The first event was the business and investment forum “Linking Europe – Smart Manufacturing Upgrade” held in Qingdao and organized by the Qingdao branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) together with other partners. The forum focused on supporting the internationalization of Chinese manufacturing companies and connecting Chinese enterprises with European partners in the fields of investment, technological cooperation, and industrial development. More than 110 representatives of companies operating in intelligent manufacturing, new materials, energy, and the automotive industry participated in the event. The program included expert presentations on the European investment environment, legal and regulatory aspects of entering the European market, cross-border financing, and individual B2B meetings.

The second event was the “2026 Suzhou Global Investment Promotion Conference – Xiangcheng Industrial Promotion Session” held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and organized by the government of Xiangcheng District. The conference focused on presenting the economic and development potential of the region and promoting international investment cooperation. More than 200 representatives of chambers of commerce, investment agencies, and Chinese and international companies attended the event. The program featured investment presentations, networking activities, and the signing of several foreign investment projects in the areas of new materials, automotive electronics, optical technologies, and energy equipment.

At both events, the SARIO representative presented the Slovak Republic as an attractive destination for industrial and technological investments, introducing Slovakia’s investment environment and opportunities for cooperation with Slovak industry. He also held individual meetings with representatives of Chinese companies, industrial parks, chambers of commerce, and regional governments to discuss opportunities for investment, technological, and business cooperation. Participation in these events contributed to strengthening awareness of Slovakia’s unique investment environment and to developing contacts with prospective Chinese investors interested in expanding into the European market.
