Slovak contribution to the development of the Turkish energy sector

On 16 December 2013 the Minister of Economy of the SR Tomas Malatinský received with the participation of Robert Šimončič, SARIO CEO the delegation of the Republic of Turkey, with the aim to continue negotiations on the issue of Slovak participation in the construction of Turkey's energy sector.

 

Minister of Economy appreciated the fact that the visit of the Turkish delegation headed by Mr Zafer Benli, the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources follows on the negotiations of the Prime Ministers of Slovakia and Turkey in June 2013 as well as the visit of the President of Turkey in August this year, during which the Minister of Economy signed the Memorandum on cooperation in energy between the Slovak Republic and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. These steps create the preconditions for the Slovak business subjects IEG Levice, SES Tlmače and Hornonitrianske bane Prievidza to participate in the development project of mining region Konya - Karapinar and construction of power plants with a total output of 5000 MW.

 

Zafer Benli, together with representatives of power companies EUAs, investor SINGAENERGY SOLUTIONS Turkey and investment promotion agencies participated in joint meetings of our societies IEG Left and HNB Prievidza. Turkish representative expressed his belief that the Slovak businesses are highly qualified to implement such a project and asked to speed up work on the preparation and implementation of the project.

 

The second day of stay the Turkish delegation held visiting SES and VUJE Trnava. Turkish delegation was convinced about Slovakia's ability to deliver high output boiler units and VUJE Trnava's interest to cooperate on the project of construction of two nuclear power plants in Turkey.

 

The representative of the Ministry of Energy after visiting Slovak companies that seek to participate in the development of the Turkish energy sector said that he had met highly qualified and professional teams that might get involved in the construction of Turkey's energy sector. At the final and informal negotiations the Minister of Economy and SARIO representative with the representative of Turkish Ministry of Energy and representatives of SINGAENERGY SOLUTIONS it was agreed that preparation of the Intergovernmental Agreement under which the Slovak businesses with an investment company would start to prepare the EPC contract.
