Electronics & electrical components industry

The electrical engineering industry represents one of the key pillars of the Slovak economy.

From a product perspective, the electrical engineering sector is mainly influenced by a long tradition of consumer electronics manufacturing (washing machines, refrigerators, televisions, telephones, radios, etc.), while also maintaining strong link to the dominant automotive industry and other industrial electronics (electric motors, microelectronics, sensors).

A highly skilled workforce with a strong technical orientation, well-established cooperation between the private sector and universities, and attractive research and development support mechanisms altogether encourage companies to establish industrial and technology centers in Slovakia’s electrical engineering sector.

A notable example is the emerging semiconductor industry, which is developing as a strategic component of the broader electronics ecosystem focused primarily on chip design, testing, and advanced packaging technologies for power modules. These power modules are applied across key industries, including automotive, renewable energy, industrial automation, aerospace, and defense. A central coordinating role is played by the SK CHIPS (Slovak National Semiconductor Association, whose key initiative is creation of the Slovak Chips Competence Centre – which would serve a national hub connecting industry, research institutions and education providers, while integrating Slovakia into the broader European semiconductor ecosystem.

Companies with strong R&D operations in Slovakia include Osram, Semikron, Onsemi, Enics, Elcom, and MicroStep.

SARIO constantly monitors the development in selected industries and prepares overviews in English.
